I would describe my journey with fitness as one of developing strength and health from the inside out. A whole body approach.

Growing up, my sports were dance, swimming, and track. I loved running, and I still do. It's not only a form of physical movement for me, but has greatly helped my mental health. Yes, I am one of those people that find running a form of meditation.

During my Gap Year between high school and college, I spent time traveling overseas where I struggled with not being able to get in a daily workout. Sure, we were doing labour work each day, but it wasn't the same. At the time, my mindset was different. And because of that, I struggled with anxiety and depression-- this, unfortunately, took away from my overall experience. It genuinely makes me sad to think back on how consumed I was by the anxious thoughts, and how I didn't know how to make the changes I needed.

When I returned home, I noticed how much my body had changed after traveling. I was "puffy", always looked and felt bloated, sluggish (energy-wise), hadn't had a menstrual cycle in months (stress). . .just not my normal self. I was working again and preparing for the start of college. It was at this time that I fell back in love with running, and I also discovered the fitness influencer, Kayla Itsines, and her BBG community. My fitness journey had kicked back in at full speed.

My mindset was obsessive around eating clean all the time and I was being heavily influenced by #Fitspo people on social media. It was time consuming let me tell you. The "diets" I attempted, like eating raw till afternoon, juice cleansing, tea-toxing, avoiding fats like the plague, etc.- these all left me craving more. It took a lot for me to feel satiated because I was working out so intense and of course eating clean, but never fueling properly OR enough.
I was SO determined and hardly ever listened to my body. . .
Fast forward and I've since recognized that at this time I may have been struggling with orthorexia.
Don't get me wrong, I felt strong and lean and ate all my food groups, and sure, my physique was changing. . .but my energy didn't last, I was moody all the time, I was cranky if I missed a workout due to a social event, still struggling with depression, and starting having panic attacks from intense anxiety.

. . .I'm sharing all of this because I've been there.
I'm just like you. We all start somewhere. I don't believe it's easy for anyone. Hence why it's called a journey. My experiences have become lessons so I can propel myself forward in my future, plus empower you to do the same.
Today, I have a healthy routine of daily mindful movement, not just for my body, but for my headspace. It feels so good to challenge my body, but also listen to it, fuel it, etc.
